Chinese owner Fujian Shipping Group has ordered four multipurpose heavylift vessels at Nantong Xiangyu Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering.
The contract covers 62,000 dwt newbuilds, adding a new series of project cargo-capable ships to the state-backed owner’s fleet renewal programme.
Designed to serve both bulk and breakbulk trades, the vessels combine the cargo-carrying capacity of a supramax bulker with heavy-lift capabilities aimed at the growing project cargo market.
Each ship will be fitted with four deck cranes, offering a combined lifting capacity of up to 300 tonnes. The specification will allow the vessels to handle oversized cargoes such as wind turbine components, industrial modules and heavy machinery.
The ships will measure close to 200 m in length and feature cargo hold capacity of more than 75,000 cu m.
The order adds to a steady newbuilding programme at Fujian Shipping. In September 2024, the company signed for up to four 82,000 dwt kamsarmax bulk carriers at Jiangsu Haitong Offshore Engineering, with deliveries slated between late 2026 and early 2027.
Fujian Shipping had also booked a pair of 63,500 dwt ultramaxes at Nantong Xiangyu in November 2023.
The order also provides another boost for Nantong Xiangyu, which has built a strong position in the multipurpose and bulk carrier sectors in recent years, attracting a growing list of domestic and international owners. Financial terms and delivery timelines have not been divulged.
