Angeliki Frangou’s Navios Maritime Partners has returned to China’s Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard for two additional aframax/LR2/ newbuilds.

The deal signed at the delivery of one of the 5,300 teu containership newbuilds the New York-listed company has at Zhoushan Changhong, will now lift its LR2 orderbook at the yard to six vessels.

Although brokers are quoting about $72m for similar tonnage, no price or delivery details have been revealed for Navios’ new LR2s, which will, in addition to conventional fuel, be ready for methanol and LNG.

The 249.9-m-long tankers are classed by ABS and developed by Zhoushan Changhong in collaboration with CIMC Shanghai Research Institute to meet the latest regulatory requirements, the yard said.

Navios has booked 16 ships for construction at Zhoushan Changhong in the past several years and also has six 150,000 dwt units set to deliver from K Shipbuilding in South Korea.
