Japan’s Sumitomo Heavy Industries bagged an order for construction of two 105,000 dwt tankers with new size from a Northern European owner.
The 105,000 dwt newbuildings are slated for delivery in the second half of 2014 and the first half of 2015.
In March this year, the Japanese builder won the first Aframax tanker after 24 months, from a Finnish owner for around $47m, sources said. Since this March, the company keeps adding its aframax orderbook with its enhanced pricing competitiveness thanks to weaker yen.
Sumitomo’s preferably signed Aframax tanker boasts 10-15% improved fuel efficiency with an optimized hull design, an energy saving components equipped and etc.
The builder currently appears to have four vessels on its orderbook including this contract.
