Chinese tanker owner Nanjing Shenghang Shipping has placed an order for a 6,200 dwt chemical tanker at Zhejiang Dongpeng Shipyard, marking the start of a new fleet renewal programme.

The vessel is scheduled for delivery in 2027 and will be deployed in the transportation of liquid chemicals and refined petroleum products.

The contract represents the first shipbuilding project under what the company describes as a broader fleet modernisation strategy aimed at renewing its tanker portfolio over the coming years.

Founded in 1994 and headquartered in Nanjing, Shenghang focuses on the transportation of liquid chemicals and oil products. The company was listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in May 2021 and has grown into one of China’s established players in the specialised tanker segment.

According to company information, its fleet has secured approvals from major charterers and industry vetting programmes including Shell, BP, CDI and Sinopec.

As of the end of 2025, Shenghang Group controlled over 50 vessels engaged in domestic and international trades with a combined carrying capacity of about 425,000 dwt. The fleet included 34 domestic chemical tankers, 13 domestic oil tankers, one liquefied gas carrier and six international chemical tankers.

The company said the latest order officially launches a new round of fleet renewal that will see vessels progressively upgraded as part of a long-term development plan.

Shenghang said it aims to build a younger, greener and more internationally competitive fleet through the programme, while strengthening its position in the chemical tanker market and supporting future growth in both domestic and overseas trades.
