Greek tanker owner Super-Eco Tankers Management has returned to the newbuilding market with an order for up to four MR product and chemical tankers in China, marking the company’s first newbuild investment in more than two years.

The Piraeus-based company has signed a 2+1+1 order for 41,000 dwt MR tankers at Yangzhou Guoyu Shipbuilding, with delivery of the firm pair scheduled for 2028. Prices were not disclosed.

The order follows a period of fleet renewal for the Tomasos family-controlled company, which currently manages nine modern tankers. Its last newbuilding was delivered in 2022 from Hyundai’s Vietnamese yard.

Super-Eco is the third Greek shipowner to order at the revived Yangzhou Guoyu yard since it returned to business under new ownership. The facility has been attracting renewed interest from foreign owners following its 2021 restructuring.

Earlier this year, Conbulk ordered a pair of 5,000 teu containerships at the yard, taking its first steps into the newbuilding market, while Chartworld Shipping, owned by the Kollakis family, signed up for up to eight 3,100 teu feeders.

Yangzhou Guoyu also announced in August an option order from MC Group for four 50,000 dwt product tankers, valued at more than $200m.
