Turkey’s Medkon Lines has bought five 966 teu sisters ships – all built in China between 2005 and 2007 – from Greek tonnage provider Contships Management.
Alphaliner is reporting the Contship Ana, Contship Max, Contship Pep, Contship Quo and Contship Bee have changed hands for an en bloc price of $37.5m.
Alphaliner believes that Medkon could use these new ship acquisitions to replace its ageing fleet of five 652 teu multipurpose cargo vessels.
The Medkon fleet is made up of 17 ships with capacities ranging from 154 to 1,200 teu, while Contships has 46 vessels on its books.
