Singapore-based Greta Shipping has taken its first step into vessel ownership, snapping up the 3,534 teu Rio Kobe in a deal reported at around $30m, according to Alphaliner.
The 2009-built ship is currently controlled by Marlow Navigation and is on charter to Maersk until early 2028, Alphaliner data shows, giving the buyer long-term earnings visibility from day one. Built at Chengxi Shipyard, the vessel has a deadweight of 41,900 tonnes, measures 230.9 m in length with a 32.2 m beam, and is of gearless design. It is fitted with 506 reefer plugs.
The acquisition marks a significant milestone for Greta Shipping, a newcomer to container shipping that only launched its liner services in August 2025. The Singapore-based carrier is owned by China’s Xiamen C&D Group, a major state-owned conglomerate with interests spanning real estate, supply chain management and financial services.
Until now, Greta has operated exclusively with chartered tonnage, deploying four vessels of between 1,028 teu and 2,444 teu on China-Middle East and Indian Subcontinent-Middle East routes.
