Japan-based shipping company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. has received the coal carrier Hakutaka at Mizushima Shipyard of Sanoyas Shipbuilding Corporation in the country.
The vessel, which was jointly developed by Sanoyas Shipyard and MOL, is a state-of-the-art coal carrier with its wide-beam/shallow-draft shape and various safety and energy-saving specifications, according to MOL.
The vessel features 235m in length, 43m in breadth and has a dead-weight tonnage of 104,819 mega tonnes.
It is the third vessel, coming after the Akatsuki, which was delivered in February 2014, and the Soma Maru, which was delivered in July 2014.
Hakutaka will serve Tokyo Electric Power Company, Inc.
"The Hakutaka will play a central role in coal transportation for TEPCO thermal power plants under a new long-term consecutive voyage service contract," MOL said.
