South Korea-based shipbuilder Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction (HHIC) has inked a nearly USD 200 million contract to build two 180,000 DWT bulk carriers with an undisclosed European shipping company, and one PKX-B patrol vessel for the South Korea’s Navy.

The 180,000 DWT bulk carriers will be 292 metres in length, 45 metres in width, with a service speed of 15 knots.

The vessels will be built at HHIC’s  Yeongdo Shipyard and handed over at the end of 2016.

An official from the HHIC said,“The shipping company which signed this contract once had business with us before. They are satisfied with our vessel so they wanted to place an additional order. We expect an increase in our revenue from the consecutive construction of a vessel of the same model.”

HHIC’s Yeongdo Shipyard won the bids to built 15 vessels in total including special ships last year.
