Japan Marine United (JMU) and Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries are said to be likely candidates to be awarded a newbuilding project for two to three very large crude carriers (VLCC) of Taiwanese operator Global Energy Maritime Corp (GEMC).
According to industry players, the two builders, each from Japan and Korea, are on the final shortlist and some media sources, such as TradeWinds and etc., say that JMU is chosen as a preferred bidder.
GEMC is a joint-venture operator built among Taiwan's state-owned energy corporation CPC, U-Ming Marine Transport and Chinese Maritime Transport in June, 2010.
The company has considered a newbuilding project of VLCC from late 2011, however is seen to have recently started to proceed with newbuilding consultations after observing market trend.
GEMC is intending to take delivery of the newbuildings in 2016 with newbuilding price to be around $90m apiece.
