The Japan Ship Exporter’s Association (JSEA) reported on June 20 that Japanese shipbuilders' total export ships contracted in May recorded 29 vessels of 0.95m gt, three times bigger than the same month of last year.
Cumulative export ships contracted in the first five months of 2013 posted 128 vessels of 5.63m gt, increased around by 90% year-on-year.
Those contracted include 14 handysize bulkers, 10 handymax bulkers, one panamax bulker, one capesize bulker, two aframax tankers and one containership.
Net export ships ordered from overseas shipowners recorded 23 ships.
As for delivery, around 28% of vessels are to be delivered in Fiscal Year of 2013, 26% in FY 2014, 36% in FY 2015 and 10% in FY 2016.
Newbuildings got clearance, which represent delivery as well, in May, declined by 34% y-o-y to 21 vessels of 0.85m gt. During January-May period, the figure decreased by 20% against the same period of last year to 136 vessels of 6.14m gt.
Meanwhile, as of the end of May, orderbook for export ships stood at 570 vessels of 25.83m gt (11.6m cgt), which showed a three-consecutive-month increase.
