Due to increasing demand for Eco-ship, eco-friendly and high-efficiency vessel, it is suggested that “the competitiveness of existing fleet is getting rapidly damaged and ultimately more than half the shipping companies around the world will be gone.”
An analyst Park Moo-Hyun at E*Trade Securities of Korea said, “As demand for Eco-ship rises, the pressure of lowering operating rates will get bigger. This trend is expected to continue at least more than 10 years, making a considerable number of shipping companies disappear.”
He continued, “Many of uncompetitive owners will close, however, Eco-ship ordering is anticipated to grow further than the past. Thus, there will be no dramatic change in the volume of global tonnage.”
Park prospected, “Operating rates will start rising after shipping companies dwindle in number as the result of a relative competition in fuel-efficiency.”
