Since March 2012, the world's idle boxship fleet has marked the highest level, reaching 705,994 teu on the first week of this month.
According to the latest data from Lloyd's List Intelligence, the idle fleet from last week increased 34% year-on-year and represents more than 4.3% of the total global fleet.
As for vessel size, 3,000-4,999 teu range saw the largest number of laid-up ships with more than 192,400 teu of capacity, followed by 1,000-2,999 teu range with 178,509 teu. While 5,000-7,499 teu and over 13,000 teu ranges represented 130,891 teu and 26,184 teu, respectively.
Lloyd's List Intelligence reveals that the majority of the fleet, with 43.9%, is idled at China Sea, while 28.2% of the idle fleet is anchored at Asean region.
