China's Shanghai Shipyard has signed a contract with Shanghai Merchant Ship Design & research Institute (SDARI) for a design of 5,000-teu containership.
The 5,000-teu boxship, an upgrade version of SDARI-designed 4,800-teu containership in 2011, is the third-generation small-sized panamax vessel, which meets changing market demand and environmental regulations.
The vessel is to be designed cutting down energy consumption by 10.8% comparing with 4,800-teu boxship, while will be improved EEDI by 17.1% according to IMO regulations.
