China’s Jiangxi New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding Heavy Industry has entered the gas carrier shipbuilding segment in a deal with a domestic owner.

The restructured builder, formerly known as Jiangzhou Union Shipbuilding, has been contracted by gas shipowner Shenzhen Haihong Shipping for a single 7,000 cum ethylene carrier.

The builder, which has seen several orders coming in from chemical tanker owners and MPP specialists since its official launch in March last year, has not divulged the price and delivery details surrounding the debut order.

This 115-m-long ship has been designed by the Marine Design & Research Institute of China (MARIC) with two independent single-cylinder C-type tanks of 3,500 cum each, suitable for loading different types of gases, including ethylene, ethane, propylene, propane and anhydrous ammonia.

Shenzhen Haihong covers domestic coastal and middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River LPG trades. The company is listed on VesselsValue with three owned LPG carriers between 5,000 cum and 6,300 cum. The last time Shenzhen Haihong ordered ships was in January 2022—a single unit at China Merchants Jinling.
