Norwegian open hatch bulker owner Gearbulk has bolstered its orderbook of ammonia and methanol-ready 82,300 dwt newbuilds at CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Longxue shipyard in China.
The contract covers two firm vessels, with delivery in October 2028 and January 2029, adding to four newbuilds ordered earlier this year, delivering in the first half of 2027.
“This order marks yet another milestone in Gearbulk’s drive to renew its fleet with efficient, high-capacity vessels servicing G2 Ocean customers,” said Kristian Jebsen, chairman and CEO of Gearbulk.
The ships will trade alongside newbuild pulpmax sister vessels ordered by Gearbulk’s joint venture partner, Grieg Maritime Group, last year.
Gearbulk controls a fleet of about 65 vessels, commercially operated by G2 Ocean, where Gearbulk is the majority owner. In late June, Japanese shipowner Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) agreed to take control of Gearbulk in a deal that is expected to close by January next year.
