Norwegian Car Carriers (NOCC) has boosted its shipbuilding programme at CIMC Raffles yard in China with a third dual-fuel newbuild.

The Oslo-based outfit, owned by a company advised by US banking giant JP Morgan, has signed up for a new 7,000 ceu ship capable of running on LNG and with an ammonia-ready option.

“NOCC is ramping up its green fleet for the future,” the company’s chief executive Olav Sollie said in a LinkedIn post, confirming the new deal.

The order for the first two vessels at about $88m each came to light last October, with deliveries starting in 2025.

NOCC currently owns three car carries with capacities between 6,500 ceu and 6,750 ceu. The company was taken private in 2014 in a 50/50 joint venture between Klaveness Marine and JP Morgan before the latter took full ownership in 2023.
