Taiwan’s Wan Hai Lines has bought a couple of resale containerships from China United Lines (CU Lines).
The 7,000 teu scrubber-fitted ships are due for delivery in late 2024 and early 2025 from Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding and are costing around $91m each, giving CU Lines a tidy profit. CU Lines originally contracted the ships two years ago at $85m per unit.
Wan Hai, the world’s 11th largest liner, will shortly boast a fleet in excess of 500,000 slots for the first time in its history.
