On 28 February 2021, the world's first 48,000MT semi-submersible heavy-lift carrier was floated out the dock, launched successfully and then entered into the final stage of construction and testing at the CMHI (China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd.) Haimen shipyard.
This gigantic vessel is a semi-submersible and self-propelled one with a DP system and lifting capability, which makes it more difficult to construct. Besides, it is 216.3m in length overall, 56m in width, a design draft of 8m with a maximum submerged draft of 27.6m and lifting capacity of 3000t. Meanwhile, it is capable of undertaking offshore wind power installation projects, such as the removal and transportation of large components independently on the sea. When it comes to environmental protection, it adopted closed-loop sulphur and nitrate scrubber and is planned to be fitted with a battery hybrid power system, therefore it is excellent in energy saving and emission reduction.
