Swiss-headquartered containerline Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) shows no sign of slowing down its buying of secondhand boxships.

According to Clarksons and Allied, MSC has taken the 2000-built 2,506 TEU pair Maira and Nikolas from Global Ship Lease. The price on the deal was not disclosed, however, according to VesselsValue the market value of the two ships is around $10m total.

While MSC and Global Ship Lease have yet to confirm a deal for the two Samsung-built ships, they have been on charter to MSC and many of the vessels the Swiss line has acquired of late have been ships it has had on charter.

According to VesselsValue, MSC still has nine secondhand boxships set to deliver to its fleet from its buying spree last quarter, not including this latest deal.
